Barn Cat Program

Barn cats in our adoption program are healthy, sterilized, vaccinated, and in dire need of a new outdoor home, such as a barn, stable, garage, or warehouse. These cats are typically not suitable to be indoor pets and have no desire to be lap cats. These are working cats, former street cats who are used to outdoor life, prefer minimal to no human contact, and who will happily tend to your mouse, mole, chipmunk or vermin problem for the small cost of a bowl of cat food and water set out daily in your garage or barn. And because we spay/neuter and vaccine these cats prior to them coming to your farm, you never need to worry about endless litters of kittens.

Adopters must provide:

Space for the cat to adjust to their new environment
Food and clean water every day
A safe shelter that protects them from the elements
Medical care when needed

Please be sure to give your barn cat 2-4 weeks to adjust to their new environment. This time allows the cat to get to know where their food, water and shelter are. Give them a secure space of their own during this time before letting them roam. A large dog kennel or crate can be used.

This space should include:

Bedding (such as blankets or towels)
A litter box
Food and water daily
Proper ventilation

Please be sure to make adjustments to their space as needed to accommodate for weather and temperatures. After the 2-4 week adjustment period, let the cat roam the property on a day when there is good weather and when it’s not too busy or noisy.

After they have been released, continue to provide cat food and water daily. Cats cannot live on mousing alone and they will leave your farm for greener pastures if you do not provide cat food. They wiill still hunt rodents if you feed them.
